Delhi Air Quality Still Unsatisfactory

Hello all,

We are moving in December now, after Diwali it is almost a month passed and there were lots of efforts taken to clean Delhi air but the recent reports suggested that the air quality is still toxics.
It is recommended that to wear the mask while going out in the open environment.

Two Cups Of Coffee A Day Reduces Liver Cancer Risk

Drinking more coffee could reduce the risk of developing the most common form of primary liver cancer, according to a study led by the University of Southampton.
Two Cups Of Coffee A Day Reduces Liver Cancer Risk
Credit: southampton.ac.uk
Researchers from Southampton and the University of Edinburgh found that the more coffee consumed the greater the protection against hepatocellular cancer (HCC).
Drinking one cup more of caffeinated coffee a day was associated with a 20 per cent reduction in the risk of developing HCC, two cups more with a 35 per cent reduction, and up to five cups with a halving of the risk.
The protection was found to be the same for both existing coffee-drinkers and those who didn’t usually drink it, and the more coffee consumed the greater the effect – although there was little data available above five cups a day.
The research, published in the journal BMJ Open, examined the data from 26 observational studies, involving more than 2.25 million participants, to calculate the relative risks of developing HCC for drinking between one and five cups of caffeinated coffee a day.
Lead author Dr Oliver Kennedy, of the University of Southampton, said: “Coffee is widely believed to possess a range of health benefits, and these latest findings suggest it could have a significant effect on liver cancer risk.
There needs to be more investigation into the potential harms of high coffee-caffeine intake, and there is evidence it should be avoided in certain groups such as pregnant women.
HCC is the second leading cause of cancer death globally because of its poor prognosis and high frequency, especially in China and Southeast Asia. It mostly develops in people who are already suffering from chronic liver disease.
It is estimated that, by 2030, the number of new cases annually will have risen by about 50 per cent to more than 1.2 million.
The compound molecules found in coffee possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic and other beneficial properties which scientists believe may explain the lower rates of chronic liver disease and liver cancer experienced by coffee-drinkers.
About 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed daily worldwide, and increased coffee consumption has already been shown to protect against serious non-cancer chronic liver disease (cirrhosis).

First Human Antibodies To Work Against All Ebolaviruses

First Human Antibodies To Work Against All Ebolaviruses
Credit-CDC.org

After analyzing the blood of a survivor of the 2013-16 Ebola outbreak, a team of scientists from academia, industry and the government has discovered the first natural human antibodies that can neutralize and protect animals against all three major disease-causing ebolaviruses. The findings, published online in the journal Cell, could lead to the first broadly effective ebolavirus therapies and vaccines.
Ebolaviruses infections are usually severe, and often fatal. There are no vaccines or treatments approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating these viruses. Some two dozen ebolavirus outbreaks have occurred since 1976, when the first outbreak was documented in villages along the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). The largest outbreak in history - the 2013-16 Western African epidemic - caused more than 11,000 deaths and infected more than 29,000 people.
Monoclonal antibodies, which bind to and neutralize specific pathogens and toxins, have emerged as one of the most promising treatments for Ebola patients. A critical problem, however, is that most antibody therapies target just one specific ebolavirus. For example, the most advanced therapy- ZMappTM, a cocktail of three monoclonal antibodies - is specific for Ebola virus (formerly known as "Ebola Zaire"), but doesn't work against two related ebolaviruses (Sudan virus and Bundibugyo virus) that have also caused major outbreaks.
In earlier research, Dr. Bornholdt and Laura M. Walker, Ph.D., a senior scientist at Adimab, LLC, isolated 349 distinct monoclonal antibodies from a survivor of the 2013-16 Ebola epidemic. In the current study, the multi-institutional research team found that two of those 349 antibodies, known as ADI-15878 and ADI-15742, potently neutralized infection by all five known ebolaviruses in tissue culture. Both antibodies were able to protect animals (mice and ferrets) that had been exposed to a lethal dose of the three major agents: Ebola virus, Bundibugyo virus and Sudan virus.
Follow-up studies showed that the two antibodies isolated from the Ebola patient work by interfering with a critical step in the process by which ebolaviruses infect cells and then multiply inside them. The two antibodies encounter the virus while it's still in the bloodstream, and bind to glycoproteins (proteins to which carbohydrate chains are attached) that project from its surface. The virus, with its hitchhiking antibodies still bound to it, then attaches to a cell and enters the lysosome - a membrane-bound structure within the cell that is filled with enzymes for digesting foreign and cellular components. The virus must then fuse with the lysosome membrane to escape into the host cell's cytoplasm, where it can multiply. However, the antibodies prevent the virus from breaking out of its lysosomal "prison," thus stopping infection in its tracks.

Ayurvedic Medicine but acting as a poison !!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ahmedabad/poison-in-ayurvedic-drugs/articleshow/57862811.cms

Dear All,
I came across the news came in the Times of India News Paper regarding the negative health impact of Ayurvedic medicine. Normally we consider Ayurvedic medicine as a safe but if it causes the harmful impacts then it is dangerous.

I know, somewhere it was written that there might be some mercury, lead, etc. in some of these Ayuredic medicine, which is require for some specific treatment, and that is also within the prescribe limit. but this is very surprising that the people who used the medicine for diabetic treatment caused them negative impact.

Really,  "There is a strong need for stringent quality control measures to be in place for ayurvedic medicines." as  Dr Aruna Dewan suggested.

Hello Friends,

"Don't Lose The Hope. You Never Know What Tomorrow May Bring"

Hello All,

Good Morning to all,

This mango plant is at our balcony. From long time this was not growing because it is in small pot and we are planning to shift it to the garden.

I do observe this plant everyday, it was just there and with no growth.

It is clearly seen that the top of the plant has simply broken (actually it was eaten by the monkey) and the other day I was thinking to cut that end for no reason.

But, recently I observed that there are new little leaves grown over there and that was a big surprise for me. Really "the nature, the creator, the god is great".

One more time I got to learn that.

"Don't Lose The Hope.
You Never Know What Tomorrow May Bring"

Why pregnant women should NEVER drink from plastic bottles

They contain hormone-disrupting toxins that could make your baby obese

  • Pregnant women drinking from plastic water bottles could be driving up their risk of having obese babies, a new study has found
  • Many plastic bottles contain BPA - a hormone-disrupting chemical
  • This chemical suppresses sensitivity to a hormone that controls appetite

Pregnant women who drink from plastic bottles are more likely to have obese children, a new study claims. Scientists have found that the chemical bisphenol A (BPA), a hormone disruptor, is linked to an unborn child's increased risk of obesity. When the child is exposed to BPA, they become less sensitive to a hormone responsible for controlling appetite.
Experts admit they are not surprised by the results, and warned of the need to be aware of environmental factors that can lead to increased susceptibility of obesity.
Pregnant women could be increasing their unborn babies' risk of obesity by drinking from plastic water bottles. These bottles contain a hormone disrupting chemical that interferes with a hormone that regulates appetite, a new study claims
Pregnant women could be increasing their unborn babies' risk of obesity by drinking from plastic water bottles. These bottles contain a hormone disrupting chemical that interferes with a hormone that regulates appetite, a new study claims BPA is a chemical found in a variety of food containers, including polycarbonate plastic water bottles and can linings. This chemical can interfere with the endocrine system (a collection of glands that produce several hormones) by mimicking estrogen, one of the main sex hormones found in women. Research indicates BPA exposure is nearly universal. More than 90 percent of people tested in population studies had detectable levels of BPA, and compounds produced when it is metabolized by the body, in their urine.

The study, conducted by The Endocrine Society based in Washington DC, looked at baby mice. Researchers found that mice born to mothers exposed to BPA were less responsive to the hormone leptin, which is sometimes called the satiety hormone.
Leptin helps inhibit the appetite by reducing hunger pangs when the body does not need energy. The hormone sends signals to the hypothalamus region of the brain to suppress appetite.
Senior author Dr Alfonso Abizaid, of the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada said: 'Our findings show that bisphenol A can promote obesity in mice by altering the hypothalamic circuits in the brain that regulate feeding behavior and energy balance.
'Low level prenatal exposure to BPA delays a surge of leptin after birth that allows mice to develop the proper response to the hormone. BPA exposure permanently alters the neurobiology in the affected mice, making them prone to obesity as adults.'

WHAT ARE HORMONE-DISRUPTING TOXINS?

So-called endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are found in thousands of everyday products, ranging from plastic and metal food containers, to detergents, flame retardants, toys and cosmetics.
This term covers a number of chemicals. One is called PBDEs, which are commonly found in flame retardants.
Bisphenol A in polycarbonate plastic is used for hard reusable bottles and food containers.
Phthalates are used for disposable water bottles.
The invisible chemical cause neurological and behavioral disorders like autism and ADHD.
They also affect IQ.
And they manipulate hormones in a way that can cause cancer, diabetes, male infertility, and endometriosis.
To examine how BPA can encourage the development of obesity, the researchers fed pregnant mice BPA in their food.
The mice were exposed to doses of BPA that are lower than levels deemed safe by the US Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada. Once the mice gave birth, the researchers gave their offspring injections of leptin at various intervals and then examined their brain tissue and analyzed their blood to gauge the response to the hormone.
Other pregnant mice were not exposed to any chemicals or were exposed to an estrogen chemical called diethylstilbestrol (DES), so their young could be compared to those born to mice that were exposed to BPA.
Newborn mice typically exhibit a surge of leptin when they are eight days old that programs a part of the brain to respond to fullness cues. The study found that animals exposed to BPA experienced this surge two days late, and mice exposed to DES never had a surge of leptin.
When they were treated with leptin over the course of two days, control animals that weren't exposed to either chemical lost more weight than BPA - or DES- exposed mice.
'This study improves our understanding of how BPA can disrupt the endocrine system in a manner that raises the risk of obesity in animals,' Dr Abizaid said.
'Since BPA has also been linked to obesity in humans, people need to be aware that environmental factors can lead to increased susceptibility to obesity and cardio-metabolic disorders.'
A report released in October 2016 claimed that plastic bottles contain hormone-disrupting chemicals that can cause cancer, diabetes, ADHD and autism.
Yet they are found in thousands of everyday products, ranging from plastic and metal food containers, to detergents, flame retardants, toys and cosmetics.
These chemicals are responsible for scores of illnesses - costing the US an astonishing $340 billion in health-related costs each year, the NYU Langone report read.
The most common illness due to endocrine disrupting chemicals is neurological - including attention-ADHD, autism and loss of IQ.
In response, British Plastics Federation Director General Philip Law said: 'Bisphenol-A (BPA) is one of the most studied chemicals in recent history and the current safety measures were re-affirmed as safe for adults, children and unborn children by the European Food Standards Agency (EFSA) as recently as October 2016.

'It is worth noting that the UK Food Standards Agency officially supports the conclusions of the EFSA about BPA.'

Why do we need Air Purifier ??

Hello Friends,

Human are very intelligent, he has the ability to find the solution for every problem, sometimes beyond imaginations. But if he really acted well on a problem then it is possible to tackle that on the spot it occurs and no need to put efforts to find an alternative solution.

A recent example is air pollution and AIR Purifiers.
We as a human being are responsible for air pollution, each one of us knew very well the source and the causes of it (no need to explain it separately) still, we are not acting on it (except some agencies, and individuals). Every day we speak on it and just go away keeping the problem unsolved. Sometime we also one of the contributors in it.
Now many companies came up with some air purifier, see the tragedy
We are doing some activities (vehicular pollution, industrial, burning, cooking, etc.) and polluting our surrounding air which will become unhealthy and the same air we breathe every day.
Some of us afford the air purifier and it might again contribute to air pollution (it can be clear if someone does the life cycle assessment of the instrument). So the situation is unresolved but who is earning "a company". (I am not against any company but if it related to the environmental hazard then one must think about saving environment and not only the profits).
Instead of that, if everyone takes this responsibility and contribute to keep our air clean (rather environment clean) it will be a healthy future for everyone.

Be aware with Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals

Dear All,
We are surrounded with the chemicals called Endocrine disruptors, these are chemicals that, at certain doses, can interfere with endocrine (or hormone) systems. These disruptions can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects, and other developmental disorders.

Air pollution increases risk of childhood obesity and diabetes

Air pollution increases risk of childhood obesity and diabetes There is increasing evidence for the role of environment in pathogenesis in many diseases. Children below 5 years of age and adults older than 50 years are most at risk. A global assessment of the burden of disease from environmental risks by the WHO has shown that 23% of global deaths and 26% of deaths among children under five are due to modifiable environmental factors. The harmful effects of air pollution on respiratory health are well-known to us and well-established. Air pollution has been linked to many noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity, cancers and type 2 diabetes. A new study has again underscored the dire need for a healthier environment. This study has suggested that exposure to ambient air pollution may contribute to development of type 2 diabetes through direct effects on insulin sensitivity and β-cell function. The study reported in the January 2017 issue of the journal Diabetes investigated whether exposure to elevated concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (PM 2.5) had adverse effects on longitudinal measures of insulin sensitivity, β-cell function, and obesity in children at high risk for developing diabetes. Although this was not a cause and effect study, an association between air pollution and risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes in children was observed in the study. • Higher NO2 and PM2.5 were associated with a faster decline as well as a lower insulin sensitivity at age 18 independent of adiposity. • NO2 exposure negatively affected β-cell function evidenced by a faster decline in disposition index (DI) and a lower DI at age 18. • Higher NO2 and PM2.5 exposures over follow-up were also associated with a higher BMI at age 18.

After Reading This, You Will NEVER Put Toilet Paper On The Toilet Seat – EVER AGAIN (Do This Instead)

Disposable-Paper-Toilet-Seat-Cover

Many of us, when using public toilets or toilets in coffee shops, put a toilet paper on the toilet seat in order to protect ourselves from bacteria. This method is not effective at all, in fact it causes the opposite effect.

We are all aware of the fact that the hygiene in public toilets is not high, but even so we should not put toilet paper on the toilet seat. Even though it seems like a  good idea to us, it is certainly not, because you are at a greater risk of getting a bacterial r infection. You don’t need to worry because today we will show you why this is a bad idea and what you should do instead.

The mains reason why you shouldn’t put a toilet paper on the toilet seat is the following: once people are done, they all flush, but no one puts the toilet seat down. The splashes can go up to 203 meters, so all the bacteria will be on the toilet paper on which you will seat. You can’t believe right? I couldn’t either.

Experts from the institute ‘NYU Langone Medical Center’ say: ‘Covering the toilet seat with toilet paper, can cause a variety of viral and bacterial infections.

According to a study conducted on their Microbiology department, after the release of water, splashes can fly height up to two meters and thus throw away all the bacteria around us. Those little drops on the toliet seat hide a lot of fecal bacteria which end up on the toilet paper.

As you can sea, the toilet paper cannot protect you, so the next time when you find yourself in the public toilet paper, don’t do that.

What should you do instead?

I will tell you two options, but I recommend the second option.

The first option is to take a few pieces of toilet seat liners in your bag, so they will be clean. However, the toilet seat is already “rich” with bacteria which means that this method won’t help you. That is why a prefer the second option.

Do not actually seat on the toilet, instead just use the squat position and do the job. Even though it is uncomfortable, it will keep you safe from the fecal bacteria.

Don’t let your friends and relatives to get infection, share this post!

Every dengue, malaria death now can be claimed under accident policy (unless turned down by Supreme Court)

Death by mosquito bite an accident, insurer must pay up: NCDRC

In my presidential speech at the Central Council Meeting in Amritsar, I had said that IMA wants the Health Ministry to declare an epidemic or disaster fund for providing free services to all those affected. In any flood, fire or train mishap the government announces ex gratia grant to the families, the same should be announced for any death during the epidemic or for any calamity in the family.
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) recently held that a malaria death caused by mosquito bite is an accident, and directed the insurer to honour its policy to a widow. (The same will be applicable to dengue deaths also). As per Justice V K Jain, presiding member of NCDRC: "An accident is something that happens unexpectedly and is not planned." and "It can hardly be disputed that a mosquito bite is something which no one expects and which happens all of a sudden without any act of omission on part of the victim."

The claim was filed by Mousumi Bhattacharjee, who lost her husband Debashish in November 2012 to malaria in Mozambique where he worked in a tea factory. The husband had availed of a policy "Bank of Baroda Home Loan Suraksha Bima" to cover death by accidents. He paid a one-time premium for the sum insured, Rs 13.15 lakh, to be paid in case of "death due to accident".

The insurance company rejected it saying a mosquito bite was not an accident under the policy, and that malaria was a disease. But all three consumer fora, right from the district and state consumer forums to the apex National Consumer Commission, held the company's stand incorrect. The national commission observed that the insurer had included snake bites, dog bites and frost bites under the ‘accident’ category. The commission also cited Black's Law dictionary that describes an accident as "an unanticipated and untoward event that causes harm". Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana covers accidental death and disability cover of Rs 2 lakh at a premium of Rs 12 per year. The benefit of accidental insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh is also extended to all with accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) launched on August 28 by the Prime Minister. The premium for the insurance cover is borne by the National Payments Corp of India. Dr KK Aggarwal National President IMA & HCFI

SIX Reasons Why You Should Never Skip your Shower

While many of us wish we could stay under the shower all day in the summers, winters and lazy Sundays find many of us making excuses to skip a shower. However, having a shower not only keeps you clean, it also plays an important part in keeping you healthy and fit. According to Ayurveda, a morning shower is an essential part of the daily routine and is considered as a therapeutic activity. Here are a few reasons you should never skip a morning shower.
It calms your musclesA shower reduces tension in your muscles and can help relax sore muscles. It also helps increase flexibility and muscle elasticity. If you’ve slept awkwardly and woken up with a stiff neck, a shower can help ease the stress and make you more comfortable. Thus, a simple shower could save you a trip to the physiotherapist.
Showers boost circulationShowering with warm water increases blood circulation and ensures that even cells in your extremities receive nutrition. Increased blood circulation also reduces pressure on your heart and protects you against a number of cardiovascular ailments.
It boosts the immune systemThe core function of taking a shower is to clean the body. This reduces the number of bacteria and fungal cells that can infect you. A cold shower also stimulates the vascular and lymph system and promotes the production of white blood cells that fight infections. Showering also helps eliminate toxins that are released along with sweat.
Elevates the moodIf you’re feeling blue, a shower may be what you need. Having a cold water shower activates the nervous system and increases the amounts of chemicals such as beta endorphins and noradrenaline in the blood. These chemicals help fight depression and elevate the mood. Additionally, a cold water shower also sends electrical impulses that have an anti-depressive effect from the brain.
Improves lung functionalityWhen you put your head under water, you are forced to breathe differently. Showering makes you take a deep breath and hold it in for a few seconds before exhaling. This action opens up your lungs and increases your oxygen intake.
It makes you more sociableIt’s simple; when you bathe, you smell good. This makes people want to be around you and boosts your confidence. You’re also less worried about your hair looking oily or your shoulders being dusted with dandruff when you’ve taken a shower and hence can focus your attention on conversations.
